Professional associations in Catalonia are governed by Law 7/2006, of May 31, on the practice of certified professions and professional associations. Each association's electoral framework is set out in its bylaws: voter eligibility, nomination procedures, and voting methods.
Many professional bodies already provide for electronic voting in their bylaws or electoral regulations. If yours does not, they must be amended and registered with the Register of Professional Associations of the Generalitat. Our legal team can help guide you through the process.
To get started, you only need:
- The roll of members with voting rights, with a unique email address for each person.
- The certified candidacies.
Each voter receives a personal link and can vote from a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Once voting closes, the tally is automatic.
All participants have access to a page explaining how ballot secrecy is protected and how they can verify that the outcome is accurate. The electoral board can monitor turnout in real time, and the audit log enables independent verification.
Depending on the bylaws, there are two main ways to submit them:
- Closed slate covering all offices. This is more common in smaller associations.
- Individual candidacy for each office: dean/president, vice dean, secretary, treasurer, board members, or other positions provided for in the bylaws.
Associations that permit individual candidacies typically also allow slates—understood as groups of candidates running together. Depending on the body's rules, voters may vote for the entire slate, select only specific candidates (open slates), or be restricted to full slates.
Depending on the modality:
- they vote for a full slate, or
- they select one candidate for each office, whether or not that candidate belongs to a slate.
Each office is tallied separately. ElectIQ configures the election to match your electoral regulations.
